Jose is a Chemical and Environmental Engineer. He holds a PhD in Sustainability from the University of Michigan where he also served as an Associate Professor focusing his research on the circular economy in the food-energy nexus, which was the inception of Poás.

He has experience in industry and academia with more than 20 years working in developing countries, several patents to his name, and 5 years in R&D at a Fortune 500 company.

Sofia leads operations for Poás. Before Poás, she performed research on the circular economy and biomass wastes upcycling systems. She has worked within the industry at multinational corporations in product R&D, manufacturing, and quality engineering.

She earned her bachelor’s in chemical engineering from the Universidad de la República and master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering and Environment and Sustainability from the University of Michigan.

Nelson is a Maintenance Industrial Engineer with over 15 years of experience in engineering in the industrial sector. He currently holds the position of Senior Engineer at Poás Bioenergy, where he leads projects focused on process optimization and the implementation of sustainable technologies in the energy sector.

Throughout his career, Nelson has worked in various industries, taking on key roles in project management and industrial maintenance. His experience spans both practical and strategic areas, with a particular focus on integrating innovative solutions to improve operational efficiency and reliability.

Priscilla has professional experience in business development, entrepreneurship, financial analysis, impact investment, project management and strategic partnerships across both the public and private sectors.

She has held positions at organizations such as Kirchner Impact Foundation, PROCOMER, the Embassy of the Netherlands in Costa Rica, AUGE-UCR, and the family-owned export company MyM Productores. She holds a Bachelor's degree in International Relations, a Licentiate's degree in International Trade, and an MBA from the Costa Rica Institute of Technology.
